After I've created three thumbnail sketches with A5 size and annotated them. The reason why that I chose the third thumbnail is because I realized it fits De Stijl's rule the best among other thumbnails . Additionally, this design has brighter colors than others, it will pops out when I paint it on the deer. I will also be adding some diagonal lines on the third design to show creativity but following De Stijl rules.
This is a draft of my final design. I've added horizontal lines across the painting, because I want to create a different look of De Stijl.
I had labeled the colors for each areas in this draft based on primary colors.
Following the steps of using tape and paints, I had filled up all the required areas with colors. My next step will be outlining the shapes with black lines.
Today I started to paint using tape. The shapes with paint are all neat and clean. I am gaining more experience from it.
Deer Parade
This is the acrylic white paint. I need to cover the deer with white paint first in order to apply De Stijl on it.
I applied the white paint on my chosen deer. I had chose a skinny deer because I want to see De Stijl on a curvy surface. De Stjl is usually on a nice flat surface.
I've painted my deer for two layers and this is how it looks.
I started to paint my deer. Firstly, I will use tape to outline some bigger areas like red or yellow. Then, I will be painting on those areas. Lastly, the take off the tape when it's dried in order to create neat shapes.
Due to the long weekend, I brought all the paint and brushes required home to finish my deer parade.
I decided to use Cadmium Yellow Light instead of Deep Yellow because I realized that this color is more similar to the yellow that De Stijl used.
I put lines for half of my deer so far. Half way to go!
Final Deer
Using the same technique from my final design, I had filled in some of the areas for half of my deer. Sometimes paint will go trough the tape due to the rough surface on the deer. If that happens, I would cover the mistakes using white paint for multiple layers.
I started to outline all the shapes with thick black line. It was challenging for me to keep the line neat and straight.
